Generation Alpha, What Does Their Future Hold?

Generation Alpha, What Does Their Future Hold?

Generation Alpha are the most globally connected generation of children ever. Covering those born between 2010 and 2024, these kids are living through an era of rapid change and a barrage of information – good, bad and fake. For parents, teachers and leaders of Generation Alpha looking for guidance on how to raise their children, worried if their kids are spending too much time on screens, concerned how global trends are impacting them and wondering how to prepare them for a world where they will live longer and work later, “Generation Alpha – Understanding our children and helping them thrive” is the book you need. The authors are renowned social research experts Mark McCrindle and Ashley Fell from McCrindle Research

Generation Alpha, the children of Generation Y, and often the younger siblings of Generation Z. There are 3 million of them in Australia and more than 2.5 million are born globally every week. When they have all been born (2025) they will number almost 2 billion- the largest generation in  the history of the world.

This newest generation are part of an unintentional global experiment where screens are placed in front of them from the youngest age as pacifiers, entertainers and educational aids. This great screen age in which we are all living has bigger impacts on the generation exposed to such screen saturation during their formative years. From shorter attention spans to the gamification of education, from increased digital literacy to impaired social formation, these times impact us all but transform those in their formative years. Generation Alpha began being born in 2010, the year the iPad was launched, Instagram was created, and App was the word of the year- and so from their earliest years, they have been screenagers.
