Huge Privacy Issue With Facebook’s Graph Search!

Facebook’s “Graph Search” is slowly being rolled out here in Australia. Facebook’s Graph Search is a new way to search Facebook so that you can use Facebook profiles with very personal details to pin-point and drill down exactly who you want to find, weather they are a friend or not. This new search uses your personal data and details that you have allowed to be available publicly. If you hide your data and make everything private apparently this data won’t end up in this new search. This type of searching can lead to finding “new friends” with specific interests, and on the upside great referrals for legitimate services.

There is no way to Opt out.

How do you get it?

Go to https://www.facebook.com/about/graphsearch and sign up to be on the waiting list.

When you have been upgraded to Graph Search, (it took me about 3 days) you won’t get any notification, but the next time you log in to your Facebook Personal Profile, through your preferred browser, (not your mobile app) you will see this!

I got Graph Search!

Turn on Graph Search then follow the tour and take a look around.

I strongly suggest you check this out NOW! Because this changes everything!….As my previous post pointed out, this new search can be used (and will be used) to cyber bully, stalk, to prey and to scam, and by activating this search for your profile and testing it, you will see how easy it is, for this new Facebook feature to be used nefariously.

The stalking App Girls Around Me that I wrote about last year was banned for doing pretty much the same thing as this new search does!

You had better do a check on your privacy settings NOW!

Most of you reading this will think you have adequate privacy settings set up on Facebook, I CAN guarantee that most of you will not. You might be very surprised what you are sharing about yourself and your profile and how it can be used.

To test your settings before doing an overhaul of them, follow the Video below to see what you are sharing with perfect strangers publicly, then hide it all. Go to this post to learn how!

Then watch my Video the more indepth privacy settings vid, and then read this post on hiding your profile details.

Unless this new “feature” is pulled…(and it may well be, when the mass Media cottons onto the ramifications of it), it will increase your chances of being scammed, spammed and stalked. For teens and kids on Facebook strict privacy settings are essential more so than ever!

Don’t believe me? If you have the new Graph Search activated, put in this search term… Photos of female ……..insert your local high school… students from 2013 result? Horrifying…this is going to be bad…..very bad. For those that don’t yet have “Graph Search”, my search using my local high-school, pulled up pictures of female students that were uploaded in 2013, who attended my local high school, including old toddler pictures of them… everything…Imagine, your local school bully is trolling Facebook looking for ways to bully other students online, a smorgas board all in one easy search…or your local pedophile, and yes you can easily download the pictures to use, as you wish, all of them were naively publicly posted!

Those parents who have been posting public pictures of their kids on Facebook are in a lot of trouble…This new search now ties everything together, finding your “victim” is now so easy that it’s a snack.

I’ll give you another search….Sydney, Australia residents who play Poker, I pulled up the first candidate, looked at his profile, he listed his work which was linked to a Facebook Page, looked at the page, found the work email address. So now I have his name, and email, I could probably look at the website and find a personalised email address for him. Then I searched for a name of one of his Facebook friends who also plays poker, now I have a referral. Knowing this guy plays poker, where he lives, where he works, the name of his friend I can use all that valuable information in an email to convince him that either his friend referred me, or I am his friend and appeal to his gambling nature to take advantage of some new gambling game, which is really a link to a Malware site, or some other thing. Easy took me 30 seconds. There’s more…but I won’t go into who’s husbands are liking porn or any of that sort of thing…

Yes it’s all publicly posted, but because of Facebook’s crazy privacy settings, people really think they are being private, and have no idea what can go wrong untill it does.

Update: For more creepy searches check out this Blog, it’s dedicated to the new Facebook Search Engine, the owner has come up with some really sordid ones. It’s astounding what people share publicly on Facebook. Hold on tight folks this is going to get rough.

If you find this all too hard but you want to keep using Facebook or you want your kids to keep using it, contact me, don’t let it slide.

Please Tweet or Like this post to share, it’s a really important one.
