Digital Families Podcast With Liz Walker From Youth Wellbeing Project

Liz Walker Youth Wellbeing

My guest today is Liz Walker from the Youth Wellbeing Project.

Liz Walker is an accredited sexuality educator, speaker and author, dedicated to culture-shifting initiatives that respond to pornography harms on children & young people.

Liz provides schools and community education as Managing Director of Youth Wellbeing Project: educating for tricky conversations. Initiatives include IQ PROGRAMS, a whole-school educational package; and Porn Resilient Kids: equipping families for tricky conversations through educational resources and children’s books.

Liz also facilitates parent education in her role as Director of Health Education at Culture Reframed: the global lead in solving the public health crisis of the digital age. Additionally, through co-founding the Australian registered health promotion charity eChildhood, Liz collaborated to develop a public health approach to mobilise responses that reduce the harms of pornography on children and young people, as well as progress Age Verification in Australia.

Liz is passionate about protecting children from pornography when they are all too readily finding it right now online, particularly during this time of the pandemic with increased exposure on home devices that perhaps have not been secured for safety.

On this podcast Liz and I chat about how children process porn when they see it, how they may react after being exposed. We talk about the risks to children when left alone on digital devices. We also discuss what the government has in mind to help protect children online with filters. And what parents can do to help minimise the risk of their child being exposed to pornography online, and how to help if they are impacted by porn.
