Making YouTube Safer For Kids

Making YouTube Safer For Kids

YouTube LogoKids love YouTube, but unfortunately it is now listed as 17+ on the iTunes store. Why? Because it’s an adult video platform, and YouTube have given kids their own app now, YouTube Kids. Not yet available in Australia. More on that Here

To make YouTube a little safer for younger users, you should set up the Restricted Mode. It won’t block all adult content but will substantially reduce it. You will still need to supervise younger users if they are allowed to use it. YouTube have a strict policy of not allowing kids under 13years to view or sign up for their platform. See their Terms Of Service Agreement below Section 12. That outlines their age policy. Note: Restricted Mode doesn’t always filter out adult advertising, so advertising for adult products may be displayed on videos they watch.

ABC KidsiViewFor younger kids, I recommend established and human curated apps like Kids iView from Australian Broadcasting Corporation or downloading videos to your device that you know are safe for them to watch. Go to the kids section of your favourite apps store for ideas.Have you found any great Kids video apps that are safe?
